To confirm transactions in Civil Registry and Publisher using MetaMask, you'll need to pay for gas. This entails funding your wallet with Ether (ETH) to pay for gas. You'll need to open an account at a crypto/fiat exchange such as Coinbase (United States only at this time), and hook it up to a bank account for transferring your funds. Once you've been approved to participate in the exchange (which could take varying amounts of time), you can use U.S. dollars or other local currency to purchase ETH.
If you already have another hardware wallet or Coinbase account set up, you can directly deposit Ether (ETH) to your MetaMask wallet using your public wallet address.
Not just best but a crucial practice: Always confirm that you have the green security lock in the URL bar when you are using or negotiating cryptocurrency on any exchange.
If this is the first time you are funding your wallet, you'll need to buy ETH.
You must first convert local currencies into ETH using an exchange like Coinbase or Gemini. They will ask you for debit card or bank account details, a selfie and your passport to verify your identity. This may seem unusual but rest assured both Coinbase and Gemini are regulated and in compliance with all applicable laws in each jurisdiction in which they operate. You can read more about why these safeguards are necessary here.
Step 1: Create a new individual account on either Coinbase or Gemini.
Step 2: Verify your email address and phone number.
Step 3: Complete required account details based on your jurisdiction.
Step 4: Verify your debit card or bank account details. If you use a Bank Account, the transferring processing time can take a few days (from 5–7 days) to purchase ETH. A Credit/Debit card lets you purchase instantly.
Step 5: Verify your identity with your passport or driver’s license.
Step 6: Click on “Ethereum” on your Coinbase dashboard. Type the amount of Ether (ETH) you would like to buy, and confirm your purchase. Select Buy to complete the purchase.
Step 7: Withdraw ETH into your MetaMask token wallet.
To do this, first copy your MetaMask address to your clipboard. You can do this by clicking on the MetaMask Extension in your browser and clicking once on the Account address. Make sure that “Main Ethereum Network” is selected from the Network selector, as shown below.
Next, navigate to the “Accounts” Tab in your Coinbase dashboard. Click “Send” under “ETH Wallet.”
Then, paste your MetaMask address into the “Recipient” field:
Confirm that the transaction details are correct. Note that you will see your wallet address in the “to” field if done correctly.
Your send will be complete when you see this confirmation screen.
You should now see your MetaMask wallet filled with your newly purchased ETH.
